World Storytelling Day - 20th March

Today is World Storytelling Day, "a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling". The aim is to get as many people as possible around our globe telling and listening to stories, in all languages and forms. You can find the main site here for details of the day, organised events around the world and how to take part.

This year's theme is trees and I thought that the photograph below was appropriate.

I saw this wonderful, old, gnarly tree when I was out for a walk with my family last summer. My seven year old son (six at the time) told me that it was the Old Tree of Asgard. We made up stories about it on the way home.

  1. Thanks for letting us know about World Storytelling Day. My daughter and I will have to tell stories today--possibly on the way to her 5-year doctor checkup. That should keep her distracted. ;)

  2. Wow, I had no idea. Oral storytelling is so important. It's how verbal cultures survived before writing.
I can still remember being told stories by my grandmother when I was wee. I must ahve been about 2-3 years old, but I can remember her words and the pictures in my head. I like to think that's how my love of stories began.

    Thanks for sharing.

I have also tagged you in the lucky 7 meme challenge over on my blog. I hope you can take part!

  4. Thanks, I had not idea it was World Story Telling Day. In our world today, we could benefit from a few good stories. Great picture, btw. I was reading yesterday who important it is for writers to get out and walk. There is much to see and inspire.
